SOAPMAKING
- Goat Milk Soap & Olive Oil Soap
Sunday, April 27th 2-5pm
These days many of us have become fed up with the chemicals present in our environment, household products, and even our food. One of the worst chemical culprits - for the environment and for our bodies - is actually the soap we use every day. Chemical soaps may smell temptingly fresh or floral (through the use of synthetic aromas that don't exist in the natural world), and they may feel like they're excellent cleaners (since it only takes a few moments to strip every atom of dirt, grease, or oil from our skin). But the potency of these soaps comes at a cost, stripping your body of its natural oils and defenses against bacteria, and can even lead to / exacerbate skin problems like eczema, psoriasis, and itchy flaky skin. So what can you do? Join Anne Morton - founder, owner, and teacher at Anvil Acre Farm - as she demonstrates how to make two kinds of chemical-free and highly effective soaps from scratch: goat milk soap, and olive oil soap. Using plant-based oils, organic exfoliants, essential plant oils, and milk from the goats at her farm, Anne will demonstrate how natural soaps are not only gentler on the skin and still tough on dirt and grime, but also nourish and even repair the skin's health at the same time. We will discuss the benefits of each ingredient in detail, as well as the therapeutic benefits of various essential oils and their effects on mood, stress, restlessness, and even anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits when used in your soaps. Class includes 2 bars of soap and handouts with the information and recipes covered in the class. Ages 15+ welcome. Meeting location Gold Hill/Placerville. Cost: $60/members, $70/non-members. A detailed email will be sent once you register online at REGISTRATION LINK
